Nathaniel, William and Bruce: Three Men, Three Centuries, One Town

June 15, 2021 @ 7:00 pm

Local history is not just local – it intersects in powerful and surprising ways with the nation’s history, and its small stories can teach us much about those larger stories, too.
Nathaniel Scudder was a physician, a signer of the Articles of Confederation, and the only sitting member of Congress to die in combat; William Dayton was a Princeton-educated lawyer and the Republican Party’s first vice-presidential candidate on the national ticket (later appointed by Abraham Lincoln as ambassador to France during the Civil War); and Bruce Springsteen, Freehold’s most famous son. All hailed from one historic town.
Kevin Coyne (pictured) is an acclaimed author, journalist, adjunct professor at Columbia Journalism school, and Freehold Borough’s own town historian. Don’t miss it!
